Transformative Education Program

The purpose of the ÖzÜ Transformative Education Program is to cultivate graduates who are committed to ethical values and act with a sense of social responsibility, who can think on a global scale and communicate effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary environments, and who can lead development in the workplace, entrepreneurship, and the academic world.

TRL Courses

These courses form the basis of the ÖzÜ Transformative Education Program.

TRL101/103 – Introduction to University Life

Educational Objective:

To guide students in deeply understanding the core components of ÖzU’s Transformative Education Program, accessing appropriate academic and social support systems at ÖzU, developing individual learning strategies (such as self-study or self-regulation), and demonstrating ethical, empathetic, and responsible behavior in all environments they engage with—particularly in the use of artificial intelligence tools and social media.

Course Description:

This course supports students’ transition into university life through Özyeğin University’s Transformative Education Program. It develops key competencies such as help-seeking, self-regulation, independent learning, academic integrity, ethical behavior and decision making, empathic interaction, AI and social media literacy. Adopting a blended learning approach, the course combines online and in-class activities: students first build foundational knowledge through flexible asynchronous online tasks, then engage in hands-on, practice-oriented sessions on campus. Online components must be completed in advance to ensure effective in-class participation. By the end of the course, students will submit (1) a reflective assignment on their university experience at ÖzU and (2) a confirmation of having read and understood the ÖzU Academic Integrity Code.

TRL102/104 – Personal Development

Educational Objective:

To help students develop self-awareness, personal growth, independence, and continues learning competencies by planning within the context of personal development opportunities provided by ÖzU, as well as drafting a CV and personal development plan.

Course Description:

This course fosters students’ self-awareness, personal growth, and readiness for independent, lifelong learning. Using a flexible blended learning approach, the course includes both asynchronous online activities and scheduled in-class or synchronous sessions. Attendance is required for designated sessions, and all online components must be completed regardless of format. By the end of the course, students define personal development goals and create a 3.5-year plan covering curricular and extracurricular activities to support those goals. This plan is submitted to the Student Development and Experience Unit for ongoing feedback and improvement. Students also begin developing professional CVs with guidance from the Professional Development Center, receiving feedback and support to enhance their CVs throughout their studies.

TRL202/204 – Responsible Citizenship

Educational Objective:

To support students in developing a multidimensional, human rights-based, and inclusive perspective on the concept of responsible citizenship; in recognizing social problems; in generating sustainability-focused solution proposals that address these problems; and in transforming these solutions into project proposals through interdisciplinary teamwork.

Course Description:

The course explores the concept of responsible citizenship through legal, political, social, and psychological dimensions, adopting a human rights-based and inclusive approach. Centering this focus and perspective, students work in multidisciplinary teams to identify social problems and design community impact–oriented projects that incorporate analyses of economic and social feasibility, within the framework of social and/or environmental sustainability. Delivered through a flexible blended learning model, the course combines asynchronous online activities with scheduled face-to-face or synchronous sessions in specific weeks. Attendance in designated sessions is mandatory, and all asynchronous online activities are expected to be completed in full. As part of the course, each team is required to submit a detailed project proposal, and each student must prepare and submit an individual reflection report on their experience throughout the process.
